Ryan Gosling inks deal to star in ‘First Man’

Canadian actor Ryan Gosling is set to star in Neil Armstrong biopic First Man, helmed by Damien Chazelle.

The story depicts Armstrong’s official biography, First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong, covering the year chunk between 961 to 1969 during which the first manned mission to the Moon was carried out.

Warner Bros. and Clint Eastwood had bought the film rights for the publication two years before its release.

The movie will be Chazelle’s first experience in helming a feature film that he did not write its script. The film will be from a script by Oscar winner for his ‘Spotlight’ screenplay, Josh Singer.

Armstrong tied to the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the precursor to NASA, as a test pilot and engineer. On July 21, 1969, he became the first person to stepped onto the Moon.

'First Man' will center around Armstrong as well as covering events surrounding this milestone in his life.

Gosling has starred in films such as 'Drive' and 'The Nice Guys'.
